Make Calls to Protest the Trump Tax Bill
Unfortunately the Senate Budget committee has approved the tax “reform” bill, moving this horrific legislation one step closer to becoming law.
The Republicans are trying to push this legislation through without hearings, expert testimony, scoring of its impact or bipartisan input, while Trump is negotiating devastating deals with the few Republicans holdouts. But it’s not over until it’s over. We have to keep fighting!!!
What we can do:
1. Join the Indivisible effort to “Kill Trumps Tax Scam”
- Through the Indivisible Guide network you can connect directly with voters in Red States like Alaska, Arizona, and West Virginia, represented by Republican Senators who might vote against the bill. You can let the voters know about the devastating impact of this bill (script provided) and encourage them to call their Senators to ask them to vote NO on the Senate bill. The calling system will even allow you to patch voters directly to their Senator’s office.
Sign up HERE to place calls.
2. Contact friends and family who live in the states listed below and ask them to call their Senators.
3. Make calls directly to the following Senators who are on the fence
Sample script HERE
-Susan Collins – Maine
Collins says many of her concerns about the dire health care implications of the bill had been “addressed” even though they haven’t been, and even though at least 13 million people are likely to lose their insurance, not to mention the huge cuts in Medicare. Call her and remind her that this is a massive tax cut for the rich, at the expense of the poor, the disabled, and the sick.
DC: 202-224-2523. Regional Offices: Augusta: 207-622-8414; Portland: 207-780-3575
-Bob Corker – Tennessee
A “deficit hawk” Senator Corker, insists that he won’t vote for a bill that “adds one penny” to the deficit, but apparently he is ok with adding $1.5 Trillion. Call Bob Corker and ask him why he was so deeply concerned about deficits under the Obama presidency, but seems to have changed his tune now that the Republicans are in charge.
DC: 202-224-3344. Regional Offices: Memphis: 901-683-1910; Nashville: 615-279-8125
-Jeff Flake – Arizona
Another “deficit hawk”, at least when Democrats are in the White House. Call Jeff Flake and ask also why it’s ok for Republicans to run such massive deficits, and why any cuts have to be borne by the least fortunate among us.
DC: 202-224-4521; Phoenix: 602-840-1891; Tucson: 520-575-8633
-Ron Johnson – Wisconsin
Phone: (608) 240-9629
-John McCain – Arizona – Sadly, he just came out in support of the bill
Call Sen. McCain and ask him to insist that something as important as revamping the entire US tax code be carefully considered and agreed to on a bipartisan basis.
DC: 202-224-2235. Regional offices: Phoenix: 602-952-2410; Tucson: 520-670-6334
-Lisa Murkowski – Alaska
Senator Murkowski was one of three Republicans who voted against the Obamacare repeal but this bill now includes a provision that allows drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Call Lisa Murkowski and tell her not to sell out our citizens’ health and well being for drilling rights in the Arctic and massive tax cuts for the rich.
DC: 202-224-6665; Regional offices: Anchorage: 907-271-3735; Juneau: 907-586-727
-Rand Paul – Kentucky – Phone: 270-782-8303
-Other Deficit Hawks: Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) 202-224-6251; Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) 202-224-5754; and Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) 202-224-5623 All are on record expressing concerns about “blowing a whole in the budget” with tax cuts. Call them and ask them to vote NO on the Senate bill.
